In case you missed it:Little John wrote:There is a clear BBC agenda being pushed. It's so clunky it's embarrassing. The only question is how many are getting sucked in by this orchestrated and naked propaganda. My guess is that the propaganda is so clunky due to the rushed need for it and in the face of massive underlying opposition. I'm also beginning to suspect Google UK searches for alternative views on this are being pushed down the search lists. I'm not kidding
Moon of Alabama: Who runs the Migrant Media Campaign and what is its purpose?
I believe that there are a second lot of elections coming up in Turkey - in late October/November time. That the U.S., Turkey and the GCC countries are actively waging war against Syria and causing the plight is not discussed at all. That these "refugees" are now mostly migrants coming from rather safe places in Turkey is left out. Instead we get, at least in Europe, a sudden barrage of the-sky-is-falling coverage in all media all the time.
There will be over time a huge backlash against European politicians who, like Merkel, practically invite more migrants. Wages are stagnant or falling in Europe and unemployment is still much too high. The last thing people in Europe want right now is more competition in the labor market. Parties on the extreme right will profit from this while the center right will lose support. Why is Merkel willing to pay this price?
The timing of the flood of refugees is highly suspect, to say the least.
Also note the uptick in propaganda vis-à-vis the "Assad must go" mantra when, in fact, Assad's forces are an effective counterweight to ISIS.
I get the feeling that this is all being pushed for another ill-conceived NATO military venture - this time in northern Syria. All previous efforts have thus far failed.
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools - Douglas Adams.

Have you seen the dead Syrian child yet? Look at his lifeless body. His head buried in the sand. His sad, resigned posture after he and his family made the treacherous journey from Syria to Turkey only to wash up dead on a Turkish beach. Isn’t this just the saddest photo you’ve ever seen? And gross too? Quick, share it! Show it to your friends — on Twitter, Facebook — so that they will feel sad and grossed-out too. Gather round, everyone: stare at the dead Syrian child....
...The global spreading of this snapshot — which appears on the front page of the Independent today and inside the Guardian, and is even callously being turned into a meme by sections of the weeping Twitterati — is justified as a way of raising awareness about the migrant crisis. Please. It’s more like a snuff photo for progressives, dead-child porn, designed not to start a serious debate about migration in the 21st century but to elicit a self-satisfied feeling of sadness among Western observers.....

Unfortunately, the process that has been playing out on this board regarding this issue is also going to have to play out in the whole of British and European society. It is exceptionally divisive and difficult but it cannot be avoided. This is just the start.
Please reconsider.
Why on earth shouldn't this topic be of concern to me and others?
A succession of heartless, ruthless Governments, and an immoral media supporting those Governments.
A large group of people in this country effectively reduced to beggary, shat upon again and again and again.
But nothing to worry about.
Really, why be concerned. Why question what we're being shown on TV, or talked down to by another group doing the squatting.
Why worry what the future will be like for me and those refugees after they reach here.
Imagine taking an alternative view.

There's a great line in that "Clap along if you feel a room without a roof" I guess a lot of those kids know what it's like when their houses cease to have roofs and they have to flee to another land and live for the indefinite future in a tent.3rdRock wrote:A parting gift for the resident racist and Steve's cabal of compliant sycophants - you all know who you are.

I think I've only met one Syrian. He was the haematologist who treated my 95 year-old mother-in-law. He had a gained 6 month contract with the NHS because no British doctor had been found to fill the post. He didn't know whether he would be able to remain at the end of his contract. I'll not forget his words, "You can have no idea what it is like in Syria".
He was quite right. I have no idea what it is like to have lived in a city which in now just rubble covering the bodies of one's neighbours.

That, of course, is an exaggeration.biffvernon wrote:I have no idea what it is like to have lived in a city which in now just rubble covering the bodies of one's neighbours.
I spoke over the past couple of days to a Syrian who is trying to sort out his sister's family whose children were in ITU (they still have ITU BTW) because of a bomb.
It does not help anyone to exaggerate the situation.
It remains, however, that a number (and I am unsure how many) of the people coming from turkey are essentially economic migrants not asylum seekers (even if they are trying to get NASS money).

Someone, possibly Kenneal, said a while ago that it was a shame a bunch of people with such closely aligned world views can disagree so badly. Stick around, i insist.UndercoverElephant wrote:I'm sorry you feel you have to leave.3rdRock wrote:A parting gift for the resident racist and Steve's cabal of compliant sycophants - you all know who you are.

Although I don't agree with you on this I would make the point that one of the most interesting illegal immigrant cases I dealt with (and resolved getting lawful status) was one where the immigrant was working as a consultant in my local hospital.Little John wrote:Foreign trained medical staff did not cost the nhs or taxpayer to train. That's why they are employed and it is also why there are insufficiently trained UK medical staff to do the same job.
It is a problem created by the "solution"
Migration policy is really quite complicated.
