Here we go: how long before this is standard evolution of legislation? Or is this just Spain catching up with the UK?
The Spanish government's punitive anti-protest draft laws are, critics say, an attack on democracy. That is precisely what they are.

In a number of recent front lines of popular protest, state capacities have been reconfigured to meet the challenge. In some instances, as in Greece, this has meant periods of emergency government. In Chicago, in Quebec and now in Spain, it has meant the expansion of anti-protest laws.
Drip, drip, drip.

Catweazle wrote:Jonny, two of your links are about Moslems in prison, the obvious question to ask is 'were they Moslem when they went to prison ? or did they convert inside ' .

The answer to that could put a different slant on things.
In some cases they convert inside since Muslim prisoners receive better treatment than non Muslims.
As an example, when for religious reasons, Muslims must not eat before sunset, the prison wearedodgy is shut by then. A take away Indian meal is then provided, a privilege not offered to the other prisoners.

And yes I DO know this ! a member of my family served time at HMP Highpoint in Suffolk and saw this first hand.

I would not extend special privilages to any religious group, if they don't want to eat until sundown I would simply offer a ham sandwich earlier in the day that can be eaten later in the day whenever religion permits.
I used to work at an internet service provider and on a Friday night I always used to order a nice pizza with Canadian bacon. We also used to go for a beer. On Sunday morning, I used to go to church (still do). Muslims used to pray and raised no problems. My company raised this as an issue (me going to church) and when I threatened them with court action they backed down. Said that religion cuts both ways.......

All right then, perhaps a cheese sandwich might be better.
