Privatising Profit

Post by 3rdRock »

The government has become too dependent on a handful of "quasi-monopoly" private sector contractors to provide public services, MPs have warned.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-30397329
A third of NHS contracts in England have been awarded to private sector providers since the service was reorganised in 2013, figures suggest.
Just two of today's headlines.

Privatise profit, socialise debt. Politicians of every persuasion have been worshipping this toxic Thatcherite mantra for too long.

When will this headlong rush to the bottom end?

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools - Douglas Adams.

It won't. Whatever flavour of TTiP we're given will see to that.

The idea of privatising natural monopolies like water, the post, health and public transport is simply illogical.

There are more and more on such lists every day: they can't come for them all. Unless they employ half the population, to watch the other half.

Standard Stazi method.

"We've been watching you. You've been naughty. We can lose you your job, destroy your family's future. But we have bigger fish to fry. Tell us what you know. Keep you ears open and give us the evidence on what X, Y and Z are up to, and we may forget about your little transgressions..."

The regimes in Germany (in the 30's) and Russia relied on fear and the prospect of being reported by your neighbour for the slightest infraction of the 'rules'. Everyone became a policeman (sorry - snitch).

In the current climate, egged on by program makers determined to prove that we're all benefit cheats and scoundrels, anything is possible.
