More or less. It?s a while ago I studied Islam but as I remember it it actually says that in the Koran but the source for that part of the koran does talk about raisins and this was miss-translated into the koran. It?s an example of one of these cultural miss-understanding when ideas or tesxt for one culture or language gets translated into another culture or langue.Erik wrote: Wow! Is this true? I suppose it might make more sense if there were 72 Sultanas waiting for them in Heaven . . .Adam1 wrote:So you are saying that fundamentalists are a nutty as fruitcakes?Andy Hunt wrote:That's the currant thinking, anyway.isenhand wrote: More or less. It?s an irrational behaviour but I don?t know if we could go so far as to say they are really mad. Personally, I think it just builds on natural human (mainly male) ?monkey level? behaviour. Fundamentalism does not occur only among religious groups.Adam1 wrote:

Yes, I have heard of the definition of Type 0, 1, and 2 civilisations. It does seem to make a lot of sense logically. I think we probably have the intelligence to get their, but I feel our greed and desire to fight will be our downfall.
It is an interesting concept to think that possibly only by global gene manipulation might man overcome this greed and desire to fight, individually and by tribe/country. I am coming to the conclusion this might be the only way forward.

If we carry on as we are and start spreading out into space we might encounter one of these type II civilisations who may see us in a similar way (rightly or wrongly), and they may decide to zap us out of existence before we've even got past Proxima Centauri because they dont want us overrunning the galaxy.?I?d like to share with you a revelation I?ve had, during my time here. It came to me when I tried to classify your species and I realized that you aren?t actually mammals. Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague, and we...are the cure.?

We'll be doomed a long time before the sun goes red giant. Apparently it's warming up ever so slightly as time goes by; eventually the sun will be too hot and Earth will be too warm to sustain life. It'll be a very long time before this happens thoughbiffvernon wrote:Not quite pointless. If we acknowledge that humanity on this planet is ultimately doomed, if only when the Sun goes red giant

We'll be able to move to Mars then. Or should that be, back to Mars then (Did anyone read the von Daniken books in the 70's? I think it was he who postulated that we came from Mars in the first place.).Apparently it's warming up ever so slightly as time goes by; eventually the sun will be too hot and Earth will be too warm to sustain life.

Given that either Uranus or Nepture (can't remember which) spins on its side, does that mean that it was brought to the solar system by drunken aliensbiffvernon wrote:No, seriously, it was Venus. Von Daniken thought that Venus, the planet that spins the other way to the rest, came from outside our solar system, bringing the aliens with it.
