Yes, details hereUndercoverElephant wrote:Truly bizarre story is breaking now from Liberia. Apparently a gang of armed men have "attacked and looted" an ebola isolation ward, causing 29 patients to flee. Who in their right mind goes within 200 metres of an ebola isolation ward, let alone breaks into it???

A night time curfew has now been announced in an Ebola hit district of Liberia. Not certain how much that will help in a somewhat lawless area of crowded informal settlements, but presumably the government wants to be seen to do something.

reports of 10 deaths in DR Congo with Ebola symptoms.
Riots in Monrovia (sp?) as Liberian Slum is sealed off.
Congo is a very big, very chaotic country still suffering insurgency. This is not going to be controlled.
Congo is about 500 miles from the current outbreak. It seems unlikely to have jumped that far without the help of air travel, and the outbreak is in a remote area. May not be ebola, or it might just be a separate outbreak.
Congo has previous experience, so may have better preparations in place.

The suspected case in Ireland is now stated NOT to be ebola, according to a statement on the BBC website.

Hopefully not careful enough. Don't misunderstand me, I have no death-wish for me and mine and I fully realise that if a worldwide deadly pandemic really took off, it would be a matter of luck who made it and who didn't. I just know that unless a significant number of us disappear into the night, my kids and my grand kids are f***ed anyway. So, bring it on.maudibe wrote:Watching the numbers climbing.....
Meanwhile, they are bringing an infected UK citizen back to the UK for treatment. Of course they will be careful.....
Bring it on.
Thats heavy Steve and uncharacteristic of you, I'm sure.
But I totally understand your sentiment. Those prepared to be wise and prepared would most likely come through OK. Those who think it is all a bit of bollocks would be screwed.
Unfortunately working in Higher Ed, with a lot of students from all over the country and the globe, the decision to 'not be there' would have to be carefully weighed up. Semester starts in 3/4 weeks.
I am keeping a very close eye on developments.
