What to make of this?
In this game, virtually all of those acting out their parts on the ground are merely players unaware of their roles.

As it happens, I've been tbinking about this quite a lot lately and I broadly agree with him. The US/Anglo/Israeli alliance is playing a very dangerous game.

The beginning of the end game, I think.

This is a superb speech by Irish senator David Norris:

What a shame we don't have politicians of his integrity.

Indeed. Although we do have Mr Galloway.

I have great admiration for David Norris. He ran for president, which would have seriously curtailed such speeches; instead, Michael D Higgins got elected - and he's had to keep schtum on issues like these; he would no doubt have made just as passionate a speech. It must be terrifically frustrating.
David Norris wrote:...and Tony Blair is involved in it. My God, that man is shameless, utterly shameless.

Obnoxious as the Israeli attacks on Gaza are, there are small scale compared to the events in Iraq and probably other areas of the world at the moment. Total deaths are of the same order as the Ebola outbreak to date, over the same period, and dwarfed by routine unpleasant deaths like road accidents in many parts of the world.

The death toll in the Ukraine are hard to track, but probably of similar or smaller size.

Deaths in Libya are a complete unknown. Western media has already largely pulled out and social infrastructure is crumbling. The vast majority of violent deaths in countries like Nigeria and Sudan probably go unreported. Millions have died in the Congo over the decades but few in the West realise it.

I guess my message is that collapse will not be televised. It will probably be easier to track the areas on the globe that descend into failed state status by measuring the decline of Western media reports from the area.

Yemen, anybody?

What makes Gaza so different from the other wars is the very close relationship between Israel and many western nations. It makes us partially culpable.

One western nation in particular. There is no "very close relationship" between Israel and western Europe. At the level of states, the US stands alone in its unflinching support of the Zionist thugs.

Some parts of it will. But I agree with your general point - just as once upon a time the map of the world have large parts of "here be dragons", so it will again, sort of. Anywhere in Africa where there isn't oil, gold or something else the outside world wants, will go first, followed by much of the middle east and central America.

So we have the end of a seventy two hour ceasefire and who shoots first? Why Hamas of course. No need to worry about the plight of the women and children around them. They have had a whole three days to pick through the rubble of their homes and find food and water sufficient to last through the end of the war. And why wait? The certain destruction of the targets the rockets are aimed at will certainly show the Jews that they have no hope and should pack up their belongings now.
And what if the rockets draw a few air strikes in response? Sure a few women and children will be martyred but that is the will of God. Every small body filmed as it lies in pieces drives our point home and demoralizes the evil enemy. Besides with 5.7 children per obedient Palestinian woman we have plenty of children to martyr.

Your so called 'ceasefire' represents surrender. Don't criticize Hamas until after Israel has complied with UN Resolution 242, signed by the USA government and the other 15 members of the Security Council.

If your standing there with an empty water pistol and the guy coming at you has a 175mm cannon surrender is a wise decision. UN Res. 242 has been implemented when both sides were willing to do their part. The return of the Sinai to Egypt for example. But the PLO and now Hamas both refuse to admit that Israel has the right to secure borders , peace or even the right to exist which are requirements of 242. Without that I don't foresee anymore movement by Israel to unilaterally come into full compliance with 242 or any of the dozens of resolutions that supersede it or refer to it.

Did you actually listen to that Noam Chomsky piece? No, of course you didn't. That would require you to actually understand what is going on here, instead of regurgitating filth.
