vts - yea, as I said 'in a previous life' so this is going back about 30 years. (But not to the model A, thank you very much! LOL)

But (and please bear with me here) .. the story is true and it is the notion that this *was* seen as acceptable, and an industry fact. Similar to corrosive bodies....

Now it has just got more sophisticated.

I would bet you that there are similar design failings built in. How many times have you heard a mechanic say "oh, yes, the XXX-TDi is well known for eating CV joints" or "the water pump always goes on these at about 50,000"

My sentiment is true.

If you don't believe me then for sure, watch the programme link or merely take your kettle for repair when the element dies.

My kettle sits on a wood stove or the gas range and doesn't have an element. The thing that gets me are small two cycle gas engine tools that gum up and die from gasoline that comes blended with ten percent corn ethanol. The guys that fix them think they are brain surgeons and charge accordingly. Often if it is past warranty it is cheaper to just buy a new one. I'm getting some relief on this as now you can but ethanol free gas at the saw shop for about $20/ gallon in tins. Also I saw a station that was advertising ethanol free premium grade at its pumps. He must be trucking it in from Canada.
