Food bank charity was threatened with closure

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Food bank charity was threatened with closure

A senior aide to Iain Duncan Smith was accused last night of threatening to “shut down” Britain’s main provider of food banks, in a bitter row over allegations of the “politicisation of poverty”.

Chris Mould, chair of the Trussell Trust, told The Independent that he had been warned during a private conversation that the “Government might try to shut you down” over its public campaigning on the plight of people unable to feed themselves or their families.
The Tories - Nice people to do business with.

I think they're trying to do the same to Oxfam over their "Perfect Storm" advert.

The fact of the matter is that charitising, if done properly, just bloody IS political. The very act of identifying a bunch of people (or animals, or mountains or whatever) in need of help, even before starting to help them, is an act of politics.

... and all of this vitriol from IDS, the man who
married Elizabeth "Betsy" Fremantle, daughter of the 5th Baron Cottesloe, in 1982. The couple have four children, and live in a country house belonging to his father-in-law's estate in Swanbourne, Buckinghamshire.

His wealth is estimated at £1 million, much of which has been acquired by after-dinner speaking. (Wikipedia)
I take it these celebrity events don't have to rely on food banks for their produce.

His wealth is estimated at £1 million...
Aww, he must be one of the poorest folk on the front bench! In fact, if he's only managed to scrape together £1m after 20 years of front line politics the bloke's a fool (or cares very little for money).

...maybe he's managed of hide his money beyond obvious sight.

I don't believe it! The wording of the quote is precisely that of a line in the Wikipedia page on IDS at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iain_Duncan_Smith
It has a reference which leads you to this from the Daily Mail in 2010:
21. Iain Duncan Smith £1m - Secretary of State for Work and Pensions
Former Tory leader Duncan Smith owes his apparent wealth to his wife, Betsy. He lives in a £1million house provided by her father, the 5th Baron Cottesloe, which appears to be tied up in a series of complex family trusts.

But he is a Yorkshireman.

Which is, frankly, inexcusable. So is Hague.
