"24+ inches of rain in 26 hours, 6,000 lightning strikes in 15 minutes in Pensacola,"
So that's six flashes per second. Can there be that much electricity in the world?

Why is this in climate change? You can't possibly present a single weather event as evidence of climate change!

A warmer world has a different probability distribution of extreme rain events. (As you well know :) )

But check this: http://robertscribbler.wordpress.com/20 ... too-early/

I guess that's off topic for flood-watch - maybe we should have a fire-watch thread?

Warming 'increasingly disruptive' across US
Between 1958 and 2012, the amount of precipitation falling in very heavy events increased by 71% in New England and the north east, while in the drier West it went up by just 5%.

"There is no equivocation," said lead author Prof Gary Yohe from Wesleyan University.

"It is fundamentally the pace of observations of extreme weather that makes it clear it is not natural variability."
Very few would dispute that, Gary. Now, what to do about it?

Serbia seems to be the location for this week's worst-since-records-began flood.

How horrendous for them. What can anyone do?

Local and European elections here this week. FOE Ireland have got a list of anti-fracking candidates, so supporting those is one extremely small thing we can do.

Certainly getting more Green MEPs elected this week is a practical step towards a stronger EU position on climate change at COP21. A simple action that all of us can take.

Agreed. The green MEPs seem to have a tad more clout than any local ones, at least over here.

I smile when I hear of 'these environmental restrictions/whatever being forced on us from Brussels'. Taking a top down view of the huge problems we create is what the EU should be good at.

Hard to get any clear predictions from the fluctuating polls, but the Greens are in with a shout of a seat in the Eastern England region.

Best bet is that it is a straight fight with the Lib/Dems for the last of the 7 seats, after the first 6 are stitched up by UKIP/Con/Lab.

Being the only party on the left at least avoids splitting the vote, and fracking has been great for the poll ratings.

I'm hoping we might get Seat 6 here in Yorkshire-and-the-Humber.

How the Brits should vote in tomorrow's EU elections?

Looks like either the Greens or, if there's a candidate in your area, the Animal Welfare Party.

There's a seeming anomaly: look at the score on climate change. Somebody's not being honest. In politics? Unbelievable!
