Met Eireann state that yesterday's storm was in the top 5 worst on record in Ireland.

Significantly, sales of generators are on a high.

Today, Valentine's day 2014, after all the storms, gales, tornadoes, rain, snow, hail and sunny intervals, it is raining in the west of Ireland (what's new says you) but now, with a vengeance.

There's little wind and what there is comes from the north-west, which is unusual in itself.

But the rain! Masses of it. Shedloads. What is rain colloquially measured in? Swimming pools? Wales-size tanks?

How're you doing in dearest Blighty?

Mr Lilley said a third of the total carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere in human history had happened since 1997 and yet it had not resulted in a rise in the surface temperature of the earth.

The position of the jet stream over western north america has finally shifted, meaning it looks like the end of the extended severe cold weather in eastern north america, which in turn will change the conditions in the western Atlantic that have been causing all these storms to come in to the UK.

But look what it's done to the water!! It's lifting it from the sea into the atmosphere and then it's falling back down on us by the swimming pool - Olympic one at that!!

I think the Olympic swimming pool is too small a measure for practical purposes. I propose a new volume measure, the Level Somerset. A rate measure would be a Thames.
