Lets get serious...

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

Do you think it would be a good idea to buy a plot of land to use as a base if society starts to collapse?

Yes, it would be a good idea.

Lets get serious...

Post by Koba »

The time has come to start getting serious, we need to (as a community) buy some land, maybe one or two acres. We need this for a base, somewhere where we can go if the worst comes to the worse. I realize that two acres is not going to be enough but at least it would be a start.

We need to start planning for what we are going to do when everything starts to collapse. None of us are going to survive by ourselves, so it is up to us to at least have an idea about where we can head for. I am sure that we could do this, just think of how willing people are going to be to let us join their communities once the crash happens? My guess would be that they would send us on our way!

What is the good of having all this information if we don't do something practicial?

Just think even if they find some way of continuing this society, land values would go up so either way those who put in would win!

Does anyone know of any groups planning to do this?

There was the Reuben Woods' project, and also Lychee was looking at doing something. However they both seem to have gone quiet recently,

It's my plan to join or help create a community when I've left my job and had time to get my head around things.

There are quite a few communities in Britain of which a number can be found here http://www.diggersanddreamers.org.uk/

I'm not in a position to do more than read and think at the moment, but that has to come first :). I'd like it to be one not far from here if possible - there are certainly a lot of activists and people with the desire here in Brighton...

Thankyou for the links that you all have posted.

I am of the opinion that what the people at powerswitch are doing is a very noble undertaking in trying to make people aware, but at some point in the near future we are all going to have to make some hard choices about what we are going to do once the peak comes. Once the peak does come all bets are off and we had better have a plan!

I really don't want to be left facing this problem alone, that is why we need to arrange a meeting point in the very near future because we might not have the means of communicating once we start down the slope. I would prefere to throw my lot in with like minded people who have had the courage to face the threat of peak oil.

Maybe at the next london meeting we could all talk about possible plans for post peak living?

Why wait till then? We still have the Internet, maybe we should start with an IRC meeting of those who are interested?
