Alan Watts wrote the single most no-nonsense book on Eastern philosophy ever written for a western audience. Tell it how it is, why not?:

http://www.goodreads.com/work/quotes/58 ... ho-you-are
“You have seen that the universe is at root a
magical illusion and a fabulous game, and that there is no separate
"you" to get something out of it, as if life were a bank to be robbed. The
only real "you" is the one that comes and goes, manifests and withdraws
itself eternally in and as every conscious being. For "you" is the
universe looking at itself from billions of points of view, points that
come and go so that the vision is forever new.”

Best heard without the images, really.

All he laments, I have tried to distance myself from all my life. Not easy. It keeps chasing me.

Music, good food, friends, fresh air, doing stuff, laughing, staying healthy, trying to be creative. Happily, there isn't much time left for anything else.
I experience pleasure and pains, and pursue goals in service of them, so I cannot reasonably deny the right of other sentient agents to do the same - Steven Pinker
