LED lightbulbs can save you hundreds in energy bills

What changes can we make to our lives to deal with the economic and energy crises ahead? Have you already started making preparations? Got tips to share?

I cheated and replaced the dimmers with ordinary switches! If yu have a cluster of lights you can put them on more than one cct so as to have a soft and a bright option. Then get ordinary "candle"-shaped LED E14's which are now widely available.

We have a floor standing lamp that uses three Small Edison Screw candle bulbs as per your link. I got some LED replacements in Tescos which are working very well for us, but they are a 25W equivalent. I can't remember if they also did a higher output version, but it might be worth checking. They have the nicest colour temperature of any LED bulbs I have tried.

I don't think they are dimmable however. Couldn't you replace the dimmer switches with ordinary ones? Dimmers do seem to restrict the choice of low energy bulbs a lot.

They're terribly 70s as well. Go well with an Avocado suite in the bathroom (complete with carpet going up the side of the bath :D )

You know, I have had the misfortune to have actually SEEN one of those! Luckily RenewableMaman had the good sense to get rid, and go for a more Mediterranean look :)

Could people please not provide links to the tax dodging, employee exploiting, unemployment making A word. I know it's the easy option but they rely on that for their tax free profits. Also, for every job that A word provides it is probable that two other jobs are lost. Perhaps we should treat the A word the same as the K word.

Apologies, but they were the only link I could find which gave the brightness (admittedly, not an exhaustive search),

A daughter bought a house in Hull - where else? that had a chocolate-coloured bathroom suite. It was almost artistic, it was so pitiable.

The first house I bought was one renovated by a builder; he asked what colour bathroom suite I wanted and I said white. He was delighted, because it was the cheapest. Funny that.

Just replaced all the bulbs with LEDs from homebase, they just plug into the existing fittings now, and the colour is really nice, a slightly less yellow light than filament or CCF. I reacon the 4-5w bulbs are very equivalent to the old 60w filament ones, also work with dimmers etc no problem.

Are these old style dimmers (leading edge, I believe for the cognoscenti), or new style ones designed for LEDs (leading edge ones, I believe)?
