I nominate the plan to put Kitchener on the £2 coin:

Can't even get the bleedin' dates right, can they? WW1 lasted from 1914 - 1919; the fighting may have ceased as a result of the armistice but there was still a state of war between Great Britain and her empire along France and her empire against Germany until the actual signing of the Treaty of Versaillesbiffvernon wrote:I nominate the plan to put EVENDODGIER on the £2 coin:

Anyway, have signed the petition
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools - Douglas Adams.

Your nit picking over the paper work. For the men in the trenches (my father was one of them) the guns went silent on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month 1918. But the coin was never meant to commemorate WW1 as a whole, just the start in 1914. Maybe it really should represent the "it'll be over by christmas" sentiment many people had at the time (1914)
As the next few years go by the £2 coin should get bleaker and bleaker as the full horror of the war unfolded but I doubt it will. By 1916 it should just be a skull in the centre tbfh.

Yes, as I understand, the Kitchener coin is the first of a series, but it's a certainly a controversial start. His notoriety started earlier in Africa where he is said to have 'invented' the concentration camp in the Boer War and was responsible for the killing of about 10000 Africans at the battle of Omdurman in 1898 with the loss of 47 British lives. By today's standards he would be judged a war criminal, put the past was a foreign land where they did things differently.

Baldrick blasts Gove.
Baldrick ftw: he's got an OBE!!
Tying in with the Kitchener Africa thing, there's a bit in the final episode of Blackadder Goes 4th when the 3 of them, just before going "over the top", talk about how and why they joined up. Rowen Atkinson's character says "well when I came out here, I didn't expect the Enemy to be armed".
