The "collapse" of Easter Island

Found this link on Ran Prieur's website and I found it very interesting.
In the article, an alternative to the "collapse" scenario popularly accepted about Easter Island is suggested.

The article proposes the theory that rats may have been the real cause of the environmental destruction and that rather than a story of failure, the continued survival of a population on Easter Island could be seen as a "success" in the face of adversity.

That's a very plausible case, O. It's true, humans can adapt to extreme conditions, particularly if they approach them piecemeal, such as with the current rights-stripping, assets-stripping and environmental destruction as well as other situations.
