How did you find out about PO?

Welcome Robins. As you'll see, we discuss a lot more than Peak Oil on here. PO is just one of the converging issues facing us all at the moment, including climate change, unsustainable debt levels, population overshoot, etc.
Maybe what WB was getting at is that you'll encounter some "healthy debate" on this forum. Not everyone sees eye to eye on the issues or their causes or possible solutions (if any). Having said that, the debate is usually very well informed, and I have learned a heck of a lot.

Yes, I believe that's correct. It was a bit more fun when there were a lot of people denying that peak oil was even possible, but that doesn't seem to happen now, disagreements tend to be on technicalities and politics.Robins wrote:

What made you begin reading about the topic?

Welcome Robins.Robins wrote:Hello everyone,
I have had a growing interest in peak oil for some time now, and thought I would join this website of like minded people. I began reading about the topic, and I suppose that is where my interest has come from.
I am not an expert in the field but am looking to learn, not only about the impact it is having on our world, but also any more changes I can make to the way I live.
Cheers.
Peak oil is not a worry; peak conventional oil extraction occurred almost a decade ago. It's the response of capital since then, in extracting dirtier, more extreme forms of fossil fuels to make up the shortfall that's the problem.
That said, climate disruption is the real worry. It's happening now and is getting worse. A sensible species would have stopped burning fossil fuels years ago but unfortunately, like the composition of this board, this species is not 'like-minded'.

Yes. Richard Heinberg was interviewed on the Kunstler Cast recently. Kunstler asked him (in a "devil's advocate" kind of way) if the Shale Oil revolution had taken the wind out of Peak Oil's sails. His response was that the shale revolution was actually peak oil in action. (The implication being, that if conventional oil production hadn't peaked, there'd be no need to engage in highly expensive shale exploration.)Peak oil is not a worry; peak conventional oil extraction occurred some years ago. Hi people,
I have been meaning to join for a while after losing Theoildrum.
My wife and I are just trying to prepare a bit for future changes. I hope we can help each other - it's good to read some like minded thoughts when neighbours and family don't see any problems.

Of course we are not encouraged to see this clearly or if we do, certainly not to speak of it to others. And many of those we might try to talk to, do not want to hear.
