Mmm. Thank you for this mate, an inspirational set to some extent. Little bit worried with the soundtrack and the composition that the curator is presenting some kind of messiah rather than a very bright bloke, now free of intoxicants, exploding on the world.
I met this guy a few years ago. Went to a party of an old friend who lives in Brighton, away from the front: a modest gaff where the party was in full swing, but where the current alternative middle class pursuits seemed to be lots of booze and drugs, and even the burnt plastic smell of the crack overlaying the dope scene. I'd gone as a friend to a birthday, and known that I would have to relegate to the chilly May back garden to avoid those temptations (former big drinker/booster here) and sat with Mr Brand and a few less sparkling lads and lasses around the outdoor furniture. He was very focussed on the quitting drugs thing at the time, and it is amazing to see the development in reasoning, sense of justice and overall spiritual growth of a human being to a point where he gave Paxo the wherewithal the other week and the raw insights as attached in the above post. Nice bloke, I reckon. Needs a haircut tho.

I enjoyed this video a lot. Let's hope he never goes the way of David Icke.
Mostly I enjoyed the looks on the faces of the interviewers, suddenly faced with Something Really Important in the midst of their slightly shallow TV show with schmaltzy decor. "How should I react?" they're thinking. "Should I mock? Should I tease? Is he on drugs again? Is he right? What have I been doing with my life? Do I agree with him? Would I dare say so? Would they mock me instead? Would my career be over?"
Brand is obviously clever enough to tailor what he says to his audience. He said different stuff (political rather than spiritual, but coming from the same place) when talking to Paxman, who, it turned out, actually agreed with him.
My favourite quote "I'm most happy when I'm being kind to someone."
Where exactly is economic growth in that sentence? Completely irrelevant isn't it? If economic growth isn't sorting out hunger and giving shelter and providing the room and time for acts of kindness then it's become worthless and not only worthless but unhelpful, cruel, destructive.
I get a bit like Brand whenever I talk about contemplative prayer, wot I learned and practiced when I was a nun for two years. I'm an avid churchgoer not because I think God wants us to interfere in each other's bedroom habits, but because it's one of the few places where it's okay to riff unashamedly about kindness and compassion and the solidarity of all people with each other and all life.
Sometimes, the constant narrative of fearful crime, immigration, isolation, economic downturn, pollution, corruption and so on just dulls or even crushes the spirit and it takes a Brand to snap us out of it. Good on him. It gives me permission again to be me and not moderate and edit myself to fit in.
I feel like I should already apologise for the rant, but, you know, eff it.

Nah, rant on !
The trouble is that the people who are fundamentally good (most people) by omission let the psychos put themselves in charge of everything. Then they wonder why it all turns out kind-of cruel and nonsensical. They think the people in charge are like them and they are wrong.
Getting back to Mr Brand, it's all very well doing yoga to try to get in tune with all the other info that's out there on the edge of your senses, but this becomes rather difficult if you're landless and hungry (you can tell who's been reading "Star of the Sea"...)

Yes but they are two separate ideas. Regarding 'yoga' - or whatever you're having yourself, it's merely a symbol - if we had another couple of million years, we may mature as a species. Your first para. applies to the hungry bit and unfortunately it (and the other myriad probably) won't be solved because of our immaturity.RenewableCandy wrote:Getting back to Mr Brand, it's all very well doing yoga to try to get in tune with all the other info that's out there on the edge of your senses, but this becomes rather difficult if you're landless and hungry (you can tell who's been reading "Star of the Sea"...)
Thinks: ah but the aberrations (the maturer ones) will be overwhelmed by the psychos. Sigh.
Ho hum. Swap him with Cameron this instant!
