Labour Party Policy on Energy Pricing

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

OK, Taken slightly out of context. Still.

("Think" and "definitely" sound a bit odd in the one sentence  ). The sentiment, though, is one I've uttered before and applies to most, if not all, natural monopolies; a truism. But of course, profit is more important than people.

Stripping down your post, Tess, you embodied an eternal, infernal truth.

A degree in bullshit is on the CV of every politician.
To digress from the main topic (but to keep smelling out political bullshit), our government got into power on a great heap of promises which are being broken daily.

So always keep this in mind, guys - it is perfectly acceptable to lie to gain power; expected even.

For instance, our current powertwats, prior to being elected, promised to introduce a packaging levy; they have recently announced they will break this promise.

Tories are now threatening to freeze fuel tax/duty until the next election.

They wouldn't dream of just going for populist policies, how fortunate.

Not quite all of the rest - here is the letter I received from my supplier a few days ago:
Dear Mr. & Mrs. Vernon

Hot on the heels of our recent announcement – of our move to just one electricity tariff, named Green Electricity, which contains 100 per cent green electricity (as the name might suggest) – we have more great news to share with you.

We’re ending our Big Six price match – under which we matched each Big Six standard tariff in their home regions. This delivered green energy for the price of brown and meant that for most people in Britain, it cost no more to be with us.

Our new pricing promise is that we will cost less than each of these Big Six standard tariffs. Delivering green energy for less than the price of brown.

We’ll maintain our legendary customer service and industry-leading levels of investment in new sources of green energy – we’ll simply do this at less cost to our customers.

The new pricing promise and new prices take effect from Tuesday 1 October.

Although the price reductions will initially be modest, this is a really significant step in our evolution as a green energy company. Our work is aimed at bringing about an energy independent Britain, and we’re at the forefront of demonstrating how this can be achieved.

Our commitment to building new sources of green energy is at the heart of this move, driven by our unique ‘Bills into Mills’ approach. We now produce around 35 per cent of our own green energy from our fleet of wind and sun parks – and this degree of energy independence is now enabling us to be price independent.

We intend to stretch the gap between us and the conventional energy companies as we achieve greater levels of energy independence.

I’m truly excited to be able to take this step. I hope you share the feeling, certainly you share the credit – this is made possible through your support.

Without our customers, we wouldn’t be able to turn Bills into Mills and pursue our vision of a Green Britain.

If you have any further questions feel free to call us on 0845 555 7 100 or send us an email to home@ecotricity.co.uk. We’d love to hear from you.

Thanks for being with us.

Best regards

Here's more from Ecotricity and it comes with a discount offer for Jeremy Leggett's book 'Energy of Nations'. I can't see the Big Six promoting this excellent book!
