Maybe not at peak demand yet, but I understand this is hapening:
He said that the role of gas in future would be much reduced, with the fuel providing only a back-up service in power generation, turned on at periods of peak electricity demand and then turned off again in favour of renewables and nuclear power.

What do you mean by "can deliver"? In the UK, for the last couple of days wind power has been delivering more than nuclear.woodburner wrote:Unfortunately it can deliver more than the wind fairy...
In 2012, globally renewables (ex hydro) were close to half the output of nuclear and growing at around 15%, wind growing closer to 20%. Nuclear output on the other hand is shrinking (-6.9% in 2012). Renewables, driven by wind are expected to exceed nuclear's output within a few years.
