A lot of them will be 'bots' associated with web search engines on their unending task of indexing the web.

Many forums have lots of lurkers. This is who is currently on two other forums that I can't see would have any interest at all to GCHQ

293 users are online (in the past 15 minutes)

In total there are 63 users online :: 3 Registered, 1 Hidden and 59 Guests

Of course just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

The only reason I commented on it in the first place is because the number of 'lurkers' has doubled, whilst the number of posters hasn't gone up at all. As this forum has been running for years I thought the 'bots' would already be on here, so I was wondering what accounted for the increase in lurkers.

I'm sure that TPTB monitor sites like this where people express opinions that are often counter to the prevailing narrative. However unlike a lot of other sites where people are expressing countervailing opinions this one tends towards sober, evidence based analysis.

Also, several people have nominated Snowden for the Nobel peace prize, such as described here.
And why not the Sakharov while they're going about it.

Snowden's getting a whack of donations via Bitcoin.

Not much hope for Snowden or Assange in Sweden, where Obama's currently (and coincidentally; funny, that, eh?) on stopover.

The Swedish government don't intend raising the subject despite their describing themselves as 'champions of internet freedom'.

The Metro taking a decidedly old-fashioned view, as in the quaint notion of a 'free press'.

An article comparing Obama, Manning and Snowden.

Who:
(1) revealed state secrets, (2) violated their constitutional oaths, (3) failed to go through the proper channels, (4) aided the enemy, (5) endangered American lives, and (6) did all of this for reasons of personal advancement.
??

The crucial role of whistleblowers
We did not really learn from Snowden (or Manning) anything we did not already presume to be true. But it is one thing to know it in general and another to get concrete data.
the US is even more dangerous than China insofar as its measures of control are not perceived as such, while Chinese brutality is openly displayed.

For 'smart' phone users everywhere.
When questioned by Der Spiegel, BlackBerry officials said: "It is not for us to comment on the media reports regarding alleged government surveillance of telecommunications traffic."
The Canadian company stressed that it had not created a "'back door' pipeline to our platform."
Don't believe anything till it's officially denied.
