But won't it cross pollinate with non GM crops whatever it's grown for, and gradually contaminate human and animal food?

Excellent summation here from someone who (I think) doesn't care for the Monsatans of this world.

The FDA is a prime example. It approves GM crops by doing no testing of its own; it simply takes Monsanto's word for their safety. Amusingly enough, Monsanto spokesman Phil Angell says the company agrees that it should have nothing to do with verifying safety: "Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible," he told the New York Times. "Assuring its safety is the FDA's job."

Hmm perhaps I wasn't very clear! If we don't grow the stuff in the UK but only import it, and if we use those imports only for burning as fuel so they don't get anywhere near the food chain, that lowers the risk of Xcontamination to as low as possible, without having to declare openly that we want nothing to do with the stuff. It helps that we are (usually) upwind from anybody nearby, and that we are surrounded by sea.

Does that tell us that for 35 years he was spouting something about which he at best chose to ignore the facts? Now he is not getting paid to talk rubbish has he decided to come clean? Is it useful as an example to hold up to demonstrate the current pro GMO speakers may also be talking crap until they have to tell the truth to earn an income? They really ought to be charged with fraud.

I think a lot of people work in areas that they may later regret. Sometimes it will be because information comes to light that wasn't known at the time, or because they're part of the corporate machine and they're indoctrinated into company thinking, or their priority is to feed and house their family, and sometimes their views will just change as they become older and wiser.

My first job was with a company that supplied components to the arms industry, but I didn't think anything about it. I wouldn't willingly take a job with a company that did now.

Monsanto appears to be aggressively targeting independent researchers, scientists, activists, and others opposed to genetically-modified organisms (GMOs) by utilizing the vast resources and manpower of both the United States federal government and the American military-industrial complex

The article mentions the cyber attacks experienced by gmwatch.org. Are they being attacked right now - can anyone view the website? I can't.
