National Weather Service meteorologist Dave Cousins said previous years have seen the Mississippi flooding multiple times in the Quad-Cities, but four times is unusual. Cousins said the huge amount of local rainfall this year combined with snowmelt and rain up north has contributed to the repeated floods.

"It's been active year weather-wise with a very wet spring," Cousins said.

The Quad-City region has had 28.55 inches of rain so far this year, about 10 inches above normal, he said.

The Mississippi isn't the only waterway to flood this week. The Rock River at Moline is expected to crest at 13.7 feet late Sunday. Flood stage there is 12 feet.

It's the third time the Rock is flooding this year, Cousins said.

No flooding in Nevada this weekend.

Extended period of exceedingly hot temperatures through Monday.

Dangerously hot temperatures are expected across much of the region resulting from a massive area of high pressure across the western United States through Monday.

Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect until 8 pm Monday.

Expected high temperatures: Las Vegas (Mccarran International Airport), 114 to 117, Mesquite and the Colorado River valley, 118 to 125, Pahrump, 111 to 114 Barstow, 114 to 118 Morongo Basin, 110 to 115 Kingman, 108 to 112 Bishop. 106 to 108 Caliente, 105 to 108 Death Valley, 126 to 129.
Timing: a prolonged period of exceedingly hot temperatures is expected through Monday. Little Relief is expected at night. Especially in urban areas such as the Las Vegas Valley where low temperatures near the Strip and downtown may not drop below 90 degrees.
Greatest impacts: This has the potential to be a Life-threatening heat event for those at risk. A total of 17 people died from Heat-related causes in the Las Vegas Valley from July 14th to 23rd in 2005, when temperatures were observed at or above 112 From the 14th to 17th. The peak temperature during that period was 117. Children, the elderly, and people with chronic ailments are the most susceptible to Heat-related illness. Heat exhaustion. Cramps, or in extreme cases heat stroke can result from prolonged exposure to these conditions. Friends. Relatives and neighbors should check on people who may be at risk. Heat exhaustion symptoms include nausea, headaches, dizziness and Profuse sweating. Treatment: Get indoors, cool body and drink water. Heat Stroke symptoms include an increase in body temperature which leads to Deliriousness. Unconsciousness and red, dry skin. Death can occur when body temperatures reach or exceed 106-107 degrees. Treatment: cool body, seek immediate medical attention.

Two missing in NY state floods

A number of communities in the northeast experienced flash flooding as a result of heavy rain Thursday and Friday. More was expected in some areas Saturday, including northern Vermont, where the National Weather Service posted a flash flood warning for the Burlington area.

Last week’s flood came exactly seven years after the big flood of 2006. Kardas said he’s covered three major floods since he arrived in this area seven years ago. The term “100-year flood” doesn’t mean the floods happen every 100 years; it means that there’s a 1 percent chance of such a flood every year, he said.

It was the worst flooding he has seen in town in at least 30 years [...]A flash-flood watch remains in effect for Litchfield County along with the rest of northwestern Connecticut until noon Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service station in Albany, N.Y. Rain and thunderstorms are expected this week as Connecticut's soil is still saturated from a soggy start to summer.

Nearer to home following flooding in 2012. Out of their house for six months and they're staying put; presumably this was a once-in-a-hundred-years event.

Meanwhile in St Asaph

Denbighshire council, which commissioned the report, had mistakenly believed the defences offered protection against severe once a century flooding before last November’s floods.

So, what can be done in our new Waterworld? The obvious solution might be an alternative to fossil fuel and an increase in modes of transportation that aren’t as carbon-emitting.

The CBC's report linked above on the floods' deathtoll in India is a disgrace.

No mention of 440% of normal rainfall, nor of its origin in the globally destabilized rainfall patterns due to US-led GHG emissions.

No mention of the collapse of massive glacial melt-lakes greatly amplifying the lethality of the floods,
nor of their origin in the global acceleration of glacial melting due to US-led GHG emissions.

Crocodile tears only.
No removal of profit-making adverts from around the report.

This is not nazism - it is something far more callous and orders of magnitude more dangerous.
