I've been involved with CABI (hoping to build their new zero energy HQ!),
They are experts in natural methods of invasive species suppression; they have been carrying out tests on Japanese Knotweed...

Not all Glyphosate is made by Monsanto. AFAIUI, it's now off-patent. Better to avoid it, but sometimes drastic problems need drastic measures. We use a brand that is a fraction of the price of Roundup, but basically uses the same active ingredient.

At least we haven't got a kudzu (Japanese Arrowroot) problem, like the southern USA.....

so far it has covered 7 million acres of the southern states and is not confined to rural areas

So the low price encourges increased use. Everyone contemplating its use should at least read this. There's plenty more for those who still think it's ok.

Everyone contemplating its use should at least recognise that they are stark raving bonkers and must be hoping that the crime of ecocide, when it becomes enacted, is not made retrospective.

The only safe method of control I've heard about is simply relentless cutting back to the ground, burning the trimmings.

Even that might not work but it's better than any alternative.

If done often and quickly enough it will work because in starves the roots of the sugars produced in the leaves by the sunlight that all plants require.

It will work, eventually. I am going to use black-bag composting - any perennial roots or viable stems will get composted in a black bin bag for year or two.

The problem is that one's neighbours' plots are often weed reservoirs.
