What Norway did with its oil and we didn’t

It's from a Canadian point of view, but perfectly relevant to the UK with respect to Norway:
What Norway did with its oil and we didn’t

It's a nice example of how it is possible for politicians to do the 'right thing'.

They did get it a lot more right than the UK, but I guess it was easier for them, with a population just under 5 million. The pressure to do the wrong thing was perhaps not as great.

It would be hard to do it les right than the UK. It has been more or less frittered away.

Yesterday going on the eia site (U.S. agency) was a bit surprised by the use of below banner :

(second one in current rolling list)

Which of course is true, but a bit a "play on words" to me ... (wonder how many Americans know that Norway isn't part of the European Union)

btw, changed my nick from Alain to Yves, real first name, (just trying thought it wouldn't work )

I have been wondering for a few years where Norway had put all its dosh. Did any of it go into US sub-prime or some other ponzi scheme?

You have to remember the best brains in British banking were caught out.

I've always had a lot of respect for a people who can make a living from so little in the way of resources, apart from fish that is.

Most of it went on the dole queues of the past 30 odd years.

Never underestimate fish. After all, we were (once) "an island of coal surrounded by fish". Fish also got (what is now) the Netherlands through the various European famines in better shape than, say, France or Germany.
