What I am suggesting is the possibility that our history of putting the sort of people that tend to be good for industrial society into positions of power and influence is likely to have promoted industrial society.

And furthermore, following the Sushil Yadav thesis, this may turn out to have been a bad thing.

Actually, I think it is probably best if senior civil servants and politicians have, amongst their number, a large proportion of people with very high IQs but that a high IQ should be seen as a desirable but not sufficient quality for the role. Empathy, integrity, honesty and a host of other qualities are also required and in a proportion of cases may be more important that IQ.
Okay, on all of that I can fully agree.

I can't tell the reasons Africa is starving- probably bad government. Whether some of it was the legacy of colonialism or a chain of events leading on from it (like how Mugabe's government targets white farmers as a legacy of the hated oppressors, even if they're not- only to replace it with his own cronies who don't care or haven't the experience).
It's not colonialism because countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, South Africa, Canada and Australia have done very nicely, thank you. It's down to bad government with the extreme example being Zimbabwe, recently.

In the UK we don't have the people who are good for industrial development in charge. How many engineers or entrepreneurs are there in government? We are governed by lawyers, bankers and economists in the main which is why we are in the predicament we are now in.

Could it be that they make the areas they move into bad areas, my friend whose family fled LA lived in a nice area, then blacks moved in and gangs and drugs and the whites moved out .
The neighbourhood used to be a really nice middle class area, my friends father was a movie producer his mother owned a series of beauty parlours they were not poor people, now where they lived is a ghetto.

I think you will see the same process in London where the majority of violent crime even now when they are only 12 % of the population is committed by blacks

Detroit in America is what London’s going to look like or some lagos slum, again much of Detroit’s collapse came about after very similar riots (1967) to the ones we had again started by blacks.
Are you seriously trying to suggest that the riots last year were caused by black people and carried out largely by black people? Because if you are, you're talking bollocks.
what was the cause of the riots black gangta dies in gun battle with the police, the original rioting started during a "peaceful vigil" for mark duggan where 200 youths went on the rampage breaking windows burning cars and stealing . so yes they started the riot

quite interesting breakdown of rioters
http://humstats.blogspot.co.uk/2011/08/ ... stics.html

Over 50% rioters are black, below 30% are white;
Black people are over 10 times more likely to participate in riots than whites;

Race is the biggest factor over unemployment, over education, and class, and rioting didnt occur in areas of high unemployment without blacks in london and nationwide :shock: :shock: :shock:

Is that gangster-English?

I think that the term 'gun battle' implies shots fired by at least two people in at least two directions, most likely towards each other. Did I miss something?

The police say that shots were fired from each side, but I think as usual youve ignored the main points I've brought up biff.

Whether he died in a gun battle as the police say or not the rioting started because of his death, most of the people who started rioting and looting shops were black

So, presumably, the concurrent unrest and rioting that has taken place across much of Western Europe is all down to black people is it J2M?

no I'm not saying that all rioting is caused by black people, but the 2011 ones here were and that often times if they live in bad neighbourhoods they made them bad in the first place .

you can see that in former segregated neighbourhoods in the states, and your likely to see it in london as whites flee

This picture is so much more complicated than you're painting. They may well have been mostly black - so what?

The rioters may also have been mostly poor, or mostly unemployed, or mostly employed in jobs where they didn't feel valued, or mostly didn't own a house and saw no way to ever own one, or mostly of lower than average education levels... there're a hundred different ways to describe the rioting cohort than by their skin colour.

Focusing on skin colour is not the most useful prism to view this issue though.

Are you under the impression that neighborhoods in the states are not segregated now? A truly blended community is a rare thing indeed and all efforts to create them fail rapidly. All voluntary of course today but white flight out of older communities where other races are moving in happens all the time and those gated communities in the posher neighborhoods in the south don't have the gates to keep out door to door salesmen. A sad state of affairs actually with much blame to go around on all sides.

From what I've heard from friends who have visited USA, overt racism is common over there in a way that would never be tolerated in Britain.

Did you look at the link I posted, in the 2011 riots it wasnt being poor or unemployed, race was the main factor .
