My local denier has just said that he heard on R4 today that the Met Office have revised all their predictions, and they now predict no warming for the next 20 years. I can't see any reference to this in the Beeb headlines; anyone know what it is about?
Peter.
Does anyone know where the love of God goes when the waves turn the seconds to hours?
• The excess carbon in the atmosphere, roughly the extra 100 parts per million added since industrialization, can be sequestered if several million people planted one tree a day for a few years.
What a superb idea.
I experience pleasure and pains, and pursue goals in service of them, so I cannot reasonably deny the right of other sentient agents to do the same - Steven Pinker
To paraphrase, the Met Office says that for about a decade, natural cooling cycles will partially offset rising temperatures, but after that the warming will accelerate.

Yep.
Though, you'd have never picked up that subtlety from the bloody Today programme report on Radio 4 this morning!

Trouble is that just planting them isn't good enough. They also have to be allowed to grow. Last year I deliberately distributed several hundred cherry plums in various locations where a cherry plum tree might grow - roadsides, waste ground, etc... Most will be doomed, even if they germinate and start growing, because some future human will decide they don't belong there. But I guess if just one of them grows into an adult tree then it was worth it.
We must deal with reality or it will deal with us.
