It's the resultant acidification that worries me.

Interestingly though the researchers aren't talking about releases powered by very recent climatic changes but changes over the last 5000 years slowly building an 8degC temperature slope.

Recent is apparently relative.

The transport from ocean to atmosphere of any methane released—and thus its impact on climate—remains uncertain

But you can be sure it won't be good. IIRC when it does happen it'll be pretty quick. Eeek

One could argue that the Carbon Dioxide released by doing so could be less harmful than the methane!
