If Scotland gets independence, I want Yorkshire to become part of Scotland
Scotland has a different social ethos from (most of) England, if you've lived there you know what I mean, if not then sorry I'm no poet/psychologizt so find it hard to put into words. But there seems to be more social cohesion, for a start. You try being a little old lady and putting "siller in the pram" for a new baby that you just happen to have smiled at in the shopping centre. In England they'd take you away. In Scotland its What You Do.

You're right; it is difficult to put into words, but I know just what you mean. Mrs Tarrel and I have sometimes talked about this. I put it down to the climate. Without a natural tendency to pull together, people probably wouldn't survive! That's a tongue-in-cheek observation, but there may be some truth in it. In Canada they have "block parent communities". On a typical block (neighbourhood), one or more householders will volunteer to become designated "go-to" houses for kids in trouble (e.g. locked out). In a country where it routinely gets down to 30 or 40 below in winter, this facility could literally mean the difference between life and death for a child who's forgotten their key and who's parent is out at work or delayed. Can you IMAGINE that happening in England?RenewableCandy wrote:If Scotland gets independence, I want Yorkshire to become part of Scotland

Of the 5 Scottish blokes I know, 2 actually live in Scotland and all of them seem to have generally the same ambitions as English blokes I know in London. However none of them are married to Scottish women, they come down here and steal our women
Perhaps, if there is indeed a diferent, more communal culture in Scotland then it is driven by the females.
I actually don't know ANY Scottish women, weird.
