So any one know what a University Technical College is? (I think that was the subject of the Honourable Member for Newton Abbot's question.) Apparently one can attend from the age of 14, which strikes me as a new twist to grade inflation when associated with the word 'university'.

Dont want to sound like a snob, but it makes my blood boil when terms are distorted for political gain.

university

An institution for higher learning with teaching and research facilities constituting a graduate school and professional schools that award master's degrees and doctorates and an undergraduate division that awards bachelor's degrees.

technical college

an institution for further education that provides courses in technology, art, secretarial skills, agriculture, etc. Sometimes (informal) shortened to tech

Both are valuable insituitions but serve different purposes.

No. That's the thing. It's a school for 14 to 19 year-olds with a techie spin to it.

Sounds like a secondary modern school for slightly older young adults
