Couldn't we give it a try, and send politicians, bankers, big business bosses, big landowners and assorted billionaires there first to set up the necessary systems for us to follow later? Of course we don't need to actually follow them later .

The people left wouldn't be able to organise a cross-channel ferry, let alone an interplanetary migration.
