What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?
Dr David Golding has made this submission to the Leveson Enquiry
The greatest concern relates to the treatment of climate change by large parts of the printed media. On 3rd December 2004, the science historian, Dr Naomi Oreskes, presented the results of a major survey4, in the leading scientific journal, Science, of the stance on climate change of bona fide, ‘peer-reviewed’ scientific papers. She concluded that “Politicians, economists, journalists and others may have the
impression of confusion, disagreement or discord among climate scientists, but that impression is incorrect”. That ‘incorrect impression’ is largely created by the media.
Presentation of this issue reached its nadir with a major article by Christopher Booker in the Sunday Telegraph, on Sunday 3rd February 2008. Under the heading, “So it appears that Arctic ice isn't vanishing after all”, Mr Booker ridiculed inferences drawn from reports that, in the previous Autumn, “Sea ice cover had shrunk to the lowest level ever recorded”, by pointing out that the ice, having shrunk “from 13 million sq km to just 4 million from the start of 2007 to October… is now almost back to 13 million sq km”.
But of course the arctic ice shrinks during the long days of summer and extends its boundaries during the winter when the region is plunged into constant darkness!
Excellent submission. Articulate presentation makes for a powerful case.
As for Christopher Booker, where's the puking smiley?

I know that we should all be concerned about the links between HMG and the press, the phone hacking scandal, etc., etc..
Having said that, who'll agree with me that this sideshow is dominating the news at a time when there are so many other 'serious' issues to be addressed?
Is this a deliberate plan by HMG / MSM to divert the public's attention and how much is this inquiry going to cost the tax payer?
I think when a paper writes 'Devastating memo shown to Leveson Inquiry puts PM in line of fire.' that's evidence of cock-up rather than conspiracy on the part of government.

You're right, of course, but I still think that the MSM are spending an inordinate amount of time on this inquiry and I'm sure that many other 'newsworthy stories' have slipped under the radar in the meantime.
