Whatever happened to Cameron, the idealistic eco-warrior?

What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?

Whatever happened to Cameron, the idealistic eco-warrior?

Post by Aurora »

The Independent - 13/05/12

After spending five years in opposition trying to detoxify the Tories' image, David Cameron promised to lead 'the greenest government ever' when he entered No 10, exactly two years ago. Matt Chorley investigates what became of that pledge.

Article continues ...
From botched cuts to solar subsidies to the aborted forests sell-off, from a new rush for gas to subsidies for nuclear power, there is plenty in the coalition's record that has raised doubts about the competency and commitment of ministers to the cause.

At first glance it appears that all politicians lie, but I reckon he might just be your typical idealist. All full of good intentions until they realise their theories are unworkable.
Once in power they sacrifice those ideals for the necessary whoring that is required to stay in power.
It's not the people that are the problem, but the system.

Most probably a case of "we will do this" and then an aged public servant serves the top secret 'we're f***ed' document to them... and suddenly the perspective changes.

Watch what happens as the left get elected throughout Europe.

I suspect this is very true. I recall Obama disappeared for a day just before being made President. When he reappeared there was a resigned look to his facial appearance and his hair turned grey.... might be a load of tosh, but might well be the truth of the matter. :(

No, I think you misunderstood -- when Cameron said he liked "green" he was using it as a colloquialism for filthy lucre (but they don't have any of that any more... I think the Labour Treasury minister left a message to that effect).
