It doesn't give hope, it stuns one into silence with sheer idiocy.

Who exactly do they think is going to pay for their demands, the people they are busy stripping any semblance of profit incentive from? And the "God Save The UN!" part? Please.....

Are we talking about the same Occupy movement that spends a fair chunk of its time making sure that others in the 99% can't work because of various work blockages, seem to enjoy their fecal throwing exercises, and are cheesed off about how to pay off their student loans to get their degree in underwater garden tending covered by someone else because heaven forbid they should ever suffer the consequences of their dumb ass actions? To heck with personal responsibility, we'll just demand someone else pay for, and fix it for us, because we can't be counted on to understand that going into debt for underwater garden tending isn't a profit making enterprise and at the end of the day, I want my piece of the pie too?

It does indeed look like a load of crap being spouted and made to sound like reasonable obvious possibilites.

Democratic one world government? Good luck with that.

Thought this was a bit odd
Illegitimate debt owed to financial institutions should not be paid.

Why don't they get it Money is just a bartering system for energy!

Your pension, mortgage, UK debt is all based on the idea that there will be enough energy/fuel for you and us to drive the economy and pay it all back.

But with Oil due to run out in 2066* all the debt the world has built up collapses and it will probably happen before then.

What we need is renewable power and lots of it. Enough to change our transport infrastructure. The clock is ticking and every year we just keep using up Oil and Gas without building a replacement energy systems is just another tick-tock of the doomsday clock.

We could start a green energy revolution it would create jobs and as the energy from it increases so would the money we have and it would be our money. It would be a slower economy than our Oil based one but it would be sustainable and could be debt free.

*Based on simple excel calculation and data from CIA world fact book.

Why all the negativity folks?

They may be idealistic and somewhat utopian in their outlook but, hey, surely there's no harm in aspiring to some of their ideals?

As if utopia has something wrong with it... :D :D

So they are naive....

So they are "unrealistic".....

So they are asking for the unattainable.....

So f***ing what?

What they are doing is getting off their arses and, unlike the generation that went before them who are all so very smug in their refined cynicism, those in the occupy movement are actually trying to make the world a better place.

As the gap between
the truth of life as I know it
and the lie of life as I am constantly told it.
increases
my despair increases also.
I am not an island.

And then I remember
deep below the ocean of lies designed to separate them
all the islands are really holding hands.
They alway have been

The occupy movement reminds me I am not an island. For that I am grateful.

And hopeful

Which ones? The stealing as much as possible from the productive members of society to give everyone not only enough money to live, but to wander around traveling, appreciating culture, enjoying life? Hell sign me up for that one! How many of the productive members of society do we have to hammer into poverty so all of us can travel to Tahiti and lounge on the beach! Now there is some culture I could use a few decades to enjoy.

Yes. They appear to be quite a bit different than the thugs and hoodlums of the world who appear more interested in just tearing stuff up. Oh! Wait! Oops! Maybe not?

I can see you now - another sad old bigot, clutching his copy of the Daily Mail. Shame.

+1.

BTW, I'm aware of the passage by John Donne that includes the line 'No man is an island' but I have never come across:

Those who refuse to look at Utopia know not which way to go - that's why so many folk go in the wrong direction.
