Tokyo Electric Power Co in March used almost four times as much as crude oil and fuel oil combined from a year earlier and the highest monthly volume of liquefied natural gas since August to make up for a fall in its nuclear power generation to zero during the month, data by Japan's biggest utility showed on Monday.
Tokyo Electric, or Tepco, saw its last online reactor enter regular maintenance on March 26.
The operator of the crippled Fukushima nuclear plant has said it expects none of its reactors to restart in the business year to March 2013 given safety concerns by communities hosting the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa nuclear plant, its sole atomic plant unaffected by a massive quake and tsunami in March 2011.
Of Japan's 54 reactors, only one is currently online ahead of regular maintenance starting on May 5. Japan's government is making a final review of safety on two reactors of Kansai Electric Power Co's before restarting.

Nuclear expert Robert Alvarez, the former Senior Policy Adviser to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy, spelled out the potential disaster in more specific — and chilling — terms in an email sent to renowned Japanese diplomat Akio Matsumura. “If an earthquake or other event were to cause the pool to drain, this could result in a catastrophic radiological fire involving nearly 10 times the amount of [radioactive] Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl incident,” Alvarez stated.
However, things could get much worse. According to Alvarez, if the 11,138 spent nuclear fuel rods contained in the facility also went up in flames, it would unleash 85 times the amount of Cs-137 released by the Chernobyl disaster

Report finds that Fukushima Disaster was man-made (well how many nukes do you find on planet Earth that have evolved naturally? )
No 5h1t Sherlock....The report said the commission found evidence of “collusion” between Tokyo Electric and regulator, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, to avoid implementing new safety regulations.
Tokyo Electric also exploited its cozy relationship with regulators to take the teeth out of regulations. “Across the board, the Commission found ignorance and arrogance unforgivable for anyone or any organization that deals with nuclear power,” the report said.

Fish caught in the vicinity of Fukushima have 258 times the "safe" level of radiation:
A pair of fish captured near Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant have shown to be carrying record levels of radiation. The pair of greenlings are contaminated with 258 times the level government deems safe for consumption.
The fish, which were captured just 12 miles from the nuclear plant, registered 25,800 becquerels of caesium per kilo, according to Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO).
TEPCO says the high levels may be due to the fish feeding in radioactive hotspots. The company plans on capturing and testing more of the fish, as well as their feed, and the seabed soil to determine the exact cause of the high radiation.
The findings were surprising for officials, who had previously seen much lower levels of radiation in contaminated fish.
