Coming soon - full visualisation... montages etc...
Maud that is pretty awesome stuff, did I hear the dulcet sampled tones of Kaiser in there?

The hundreds of megabits of .WAV files are also pretty awesome at
this distant point on the data highway. Can you download as MP3s?

It is not that grim

I have spent a very interesting wet day browsing this thread and following some of the links when weeding operations had to be abandoned outside and I was avoiding the PC and electric toaster ( (>: ) I was supposed to be fixing up.

Highlights for me were Richard Thompson, Show of Hands and particularly David Byrne doing "Nothing but Flowers".

Interesting to see the Ian Anderson fans on this site as well.

My own suggestion would be Jimmy Hendrix doing "All along the Watctower" which is about from the same time I saw Tull in the Ulster Hall in Belfast a few years ago.

"Nothing but Flowers" with a very cheesy Thomas "One of our Submarines is Missing" Dolby clapping along!

Hi Roger - no samples in there apart from news items. All guitar and bass and keyboard played by yours truly. Admit to using drum loops as I cant play drums. So No Kaiser.

If you use Cubase I can provide the full project files - if you fancy a remix :)

Just listening to this again . . . for anyone who hasn't downloaded it yet, DO SO IMMEDIATELY because it really is bloody brilliant! Some truly great guitar playing on there!!

Thanks for the compliment Andy. Pleased you enjoyed. Did you download the full fat version from soundcloud? It sound so much better as a 16bit Wav rather than an MP3 ... or the truly awful compression used by YouTube....

I promised a while back that there are some visualisations for the album - and indeed there are....for the full album length. Problem is - YouTube only allows you about 9 minutes :(

So heres a link to just one track:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhSYE2oXJX0

Just a slide show made up of found images but quite nice I think.

The full album visualisation is enough to bring you to tears though. Mail me if you want a copy. My mate played it non stop for 2 weeks and then was admitted to a secure ward.

I have been editing video clips to some of my selection of peak oil and related music for the last few years.

First try was "All Lost in the Supermarket" by the Clash which of course has been done loads of times with varying degrees of success. This version is set in local village Creeslough and the shopping centre in my nearest "big " town (pop 23,000) Letterkenny.

My next attempt was "Damaged Goods" with a better camera. The music is by 80's Trot Rockers, Gang of Four. This video focussed on the speculative building boom in Ireland and whereas the music describes angst ridden alienation between people, here I have twisted it a bit to also consider alienation between people and their environment.

The Velvet Underground and "I found a Reason" inspired the next effort considering the rampantly growing consumerism in a small town that could be anywhere.

http://vimeo.com/5877503

Neil Young doing "Cow Girl in the Sand" inspired this cars eye view of life which runs to an indulgent 10 minutes.

"Girls of Gortahork" by local band The Dangleberries was recorded in my living room many years ago on 1/4" analogue tape. I was pleased to be able to find suitable video material to set to it to.

The Great Divide by Janis Ian

Come good people and gather 'round
Step out of the water before you drown
Tide is coming swift and deep
Gonna knock you off your feet
There's a tide of greed that knows no shame
and a tide of money that holds no stain
A tide of men who worship pride
and will not be denied

While politicians lie and cheat
to get to higher ground,
we follow them like sheep
and salute them as we drown
but no man will be king
when all men wear the crown,
and there will be a reckoning
from deep inside the rising tide
as we tear down the walls
of the Great Divide

Come good people and gather here
You who still hold freedom dear
Step across the waters
Bring your sons and daughters
Some will sink and some will swim
Some will walk on the water again
Some will rise and some will fall
Each one will hear the call

While churches counsel patience
and heavenly reward
they sub-divide our nations
by the shield and by the sword
and every congregation
has a pipeline to the lord
but there will be no salvation
and no place to hide for those who lied
and buried us alive to build the walls
of the Great Divide

And oh, when the poorest of the poor
come knocking at the door
they will not be denied
And oh, when those who took too much
are stripped of it and judged
then mercy will provide for the rising tide

So come good people and gather 'round
Come and stand on common ground
Raise your voices up and sing
Let's make the heavens ring
And you whose silence costs your soul
Learn to speak or dig your hole
Tomorrow's here and it won't wait
No time to hesitate

The tide's already risen
The deluge is at hand
Don't sit there by the ocean
while it sucks away the sand
'cause you'll be left with nothing
but the memory of land
while we sit high above the tide
and watch the walls begin to fall
as one by one our children wave goodbye
to the Great Divide

Songs From The Floodplain by Jon Boden (the complete album)

http://www.DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk/Songs-Floodplai ... 785&sr=8-1
At first glance Jon Boden's second solo album sounds like another collection of well-crafted folk tunes. Closer inspection reveals it to be something altogether different. These are in fact hand-me-down songs from a time that has yet to happen.

Set in some post-apocalyptic Albion, these are tales about life in a post-industrial wasteland where the barbed-wire and the ivy intertwine; a place where hope hasn't entirely dwindled away, but it may be on its last legs.

Opening and closing with the sound of falling rain (perhaps the very Hard Rain that Dylan warned us about way back when), Boden maps out a desolate place where what's left of the population have fallen prey to chronic fear, huddling in small insular communities.

If the notion of a concept album somehow strikes you as indicative that he's given in to some prog-rock pomposity, stop worrying.

Given that the bulk of the traditional folk repertoire deals with great disasters and challenging events of times gone by, Boden's dipping into the song-book of the days of future passed produces some glorious tunes borne from grim adversity.

Throughout, his vocals reveal an unexpected tenderness and an almost poetic incisiveness that sometimes gets lost in the mix in his day job with folk ensemble, Bellowhead.

In the album's poignant centre-piece, Dancing In The Factory, he observes ''We cling to words like children and seek for hidden meaning/ Long after sense has ceased to be and reason is receding/ But words have torn this world apart and left us stooped and pleading/We shovel dust and hide our hope and wrap ourselves in dreaming''.

Accompanied by a lonely accordion, and emotion breaking his voice, when Boden sings on the chorus, ''And all that I can think about is wood smoke in the valley / kisses in the fall-out shelter, dancing in the factory/ That closed so long ago'', the sense of complete devastation is overwhelming.

A beautifully profound and dramatic record that has all the makings of a future classic. --Sid Smith

Piano from Philip Glass: Metamorphosis 1 etc.

I'd say this has become the almost universal soundtrack of unsettling times and doom on the broadcast media, both radio and TV. The latest to use it is this week's This World with Michael Portillo on Greece and the euro.

Steve Tilston - The Reckoning

Here’s to all the grand children,
Yet to be born great grand children.
All your sons and daughters,
And your own grand children too.

I offer you my hand.
Out across the age’s span.
A misbegotten plan
To leave the reckoning to you

I must apologise,
if it’s written in the troubled skies.
We’ve been peddling lies,
Somehow forgotten what is true.

Though it’s buried deep.
Poison never sleeps.
Through the ages seeps,
To leave a reckoning for you.

We hang on to misguided dreams,
sleepwalk to the brink.
Hey ho, rue the day.
We’re going down in drink.

I have planted seed.
In vain to raise an apple tree.
To entice the bees
to sip the blossom on the bough.

But the bees don’t toil.
Around the tree a serpent coils,
Spits venom in the soil,
And leaves the reckoning to you

I raise to you a toast.
Should trouble come to roost.
For we ate the golden goose,
And left the reckoning to you.
