Lightweight tents

Karrimor are not the the brand they used to be.
We used a Vango Force 10 Nitro 200+ for our hike across Scotland.

I'd recommend the Vango Force 10 range.

And I like blacks tents although Ive just lost about 2 grand in shares when blacks leisure plc collapsed .
I own shares in the company that bought them out too so i still in theory own part of blacks and millets and eurohike .
personally i wouldn't pay that much money for a tent I like north face tents, I have a wild country terra nova which I found in as new condition thats a nice tent but I wouldn't buy one new

We have a Eurohike 2-man dome tent (with porch). It's a bit heavy for backpacking, but we use it as a pup tent for the boys when we go car-based camping.
It cost £29.99 years ago and is simply the best tent I have ever owned. It's perfectly spacious for two, and cavernous for one. It's stable in high winds. It doesn't leak. It has a roof-vent that prevents condensation. It goes up in about 5 minutes. It pitches outer-first. It doesn't need too many pegs.
What's not to like!
To be honest, it would be fine for backpacking if split between two people. They don't make it anymore, but I think the more recent version is the Avon, but it is just a bit bigger and heavier.

Ah, well the Marmots are not cheap, but nowhere near as expensive as the Vango. You still get some porch space (though not as much).
One good thing to report on the Marmots: survived the great inundation of 2007 around Berkshire/Thames tributaries, where the tent was pretty much in a sea of fast-flowing water, with a river flowing underneath. Amazingly none of it came into the tent, you just felt the 'cold' sensation of the water coming through the groundsheet, not the actual moisture. That was after slackening the pegs to make sure the water didn't rush in over the top of the groundsheet (over a period of 17 hours of heavy rain and very waterlogged land, with local flooding above 1 metre).

in reading alone they may burn 20,000 tents a year for fun,

I live about five miles from Castle Donnington. I'll try and get a job up there after one (or more) of the festivals and salvage what I can for the good of the group. I really mean this.
Guy down the road makes a decent amount just picking up the empty drinks cans.
Thanks for the heads up J2M
Intelligent chickens? It's the cats I'm more concerned with. Plotting evil catty plots while they pretend to sleep. How stupid do they think we are?
