Last year's withdrawal of high quality oil from the US strategic reserve is being replaced with heavier, sourer oil, if at all, from the rumours on TOD. Only a small percentage of the reserves are the good stuff. Not all oil can be processed by all refineries.

Yes.
No one knows by how much the remaining oil would go up, but probably substantialy.
The industrial dispute in Nigeria is not yet affecting oil supplies, but any reduction in supplies from Nigeria would increase the effect of any ME blockades or closures.

Industrial disputes in other oil producing nations are likely IMHO. What is the point in striking when oil is relatively plentifull and no one cares ?
If oil is already short, then strikes are a far more effective weapon.

I've posted elsewhere about Iran's ability to take casualties in the Iran Iraq War. That attitude is still there, think the Soviets in WW2, yes it's a harsh regime but, just as in Russia, the invader will be seen as the BIG problem.

American casualties will make Iraq and Vietnam look like a picnic. The base map shows they intend to assault from all directions. Fine, they'll occupy the ground then the resistance will start.

The resulting conflict will, likely, destabilise Pakistan which is what really gives Western planners the twitches.

At that point start making serious plans to bug out.

Didn't we learn that when the price goes up demand goes down?

Afghanistan is a divided country between different ethnic groups in the north and south; US displaced the Taliban government by playing/paying-off one side against the other.

Iraq is a divided country, between local tribes but also between two competing Islamic sects and the Kurds. Kurdish and Marsh Arab 'safe havens' allowed US forces to easily make their way towards the heart of the country.

Iran is not ethically divided -- it's politically divided. If you know any Iranians, even those who fled after the 1980 revolution, you'll know that the 'Persian' identity runs deep. If the US try anything with Iran, the excrement will really hit the air conditioning! Quite apart from having coastal access to the narrowest point in the Gulf, sitting between Iraq and Afghanistan the Iranians could make life hell for the American forces in the region.

As I see it, the military-industrial-entertainment complex needs new markets to make money, and so it talks up the Iranian issue to soften-up the US public -- just in case a Chickenhawk republican get elected in November.

Hopefully Britain won't be involved because we no longer have a weak-willed right-wing prime minister alienated from his party in charge.....

Indeed. I have a friend who identifies himself as Persian. He hates his present government so cannot return to his beloved homeland at present but if there's one thing that could unite all Persians it's an attack by America. Iran is fundamentally different from Iraq.

+1 again. Complete agreement, the Iranian armed forces will be bad enough, then there's the guerilla aspect  :(

Unsurprising. Getting out from the yoke of the dollar as a reserve currency was never going to be easy. Ask Gadaffi. Ask Hussein.
