What can we do to change the minds of decision makers and people in general to actually do something about preparing for the forthcoming economic/energy crises (the ones after this one!)?
She's not dead (yet) but Osbourne has apparently been talking about her receiving a state funeral, so here's a link to an e petition regarding a privatization many of us might actually want to support:
In keeping with the great lady's legacy, Margaret Thatcher's state funeral should be funded and managed by the private sector to offer the best value and choice for end users and other stakeholders. The undersigned believe that the legacy of the former PM deserves nothing less and that offering this unique opportunity is an ideal way to cut government expense and further prove the merits of liberalised economics Baroness Thatcher spearheaded.

Consider the endless possibilities, for die-hard Thatcherites, of privatising the event. I think we can agree it should be ticketed so it can turn a profit. Perhaps an IT company (let's call them Crapita for example), could sell tickets via the internet. You may have to wait a couple of months to get the system off the ground but at least it'll work … eventually. If it's anything like the privatisation of the railways, none of the funeral services would run on time and you'd end up with 500 people in a church meant for 200.

I used to reserve a special hatred for Thatcher. But look at it this way: at least she put her cards on the table. That's more than can be said for those snakes Blair, Obama and Cameron.

I think the Tory Party should run it as a fund raiser. They're always after me to sell or buy raffle tickets or attend horrendously priced junkets, so perhaps they should put their money where their mouth is.

Cameron has put his cards on the table on a number of occasions and been shot down in flames by the media so he now does the sensible thing and keeps his mouth shut. Except, of course, when he calls for Christian values from our so called "Christian" society.

Complete agreement from me Ludwig I still favour the stakes though just in case
I think Cameron's staff are just more successful at manipulating the media at the moment.

None of my family caused anything like the misery that woman did in her day. I grew up in Suffolk a Tory heartland and then moved to Nottingham which isn't. I can take you to plenty of towns and villages where the social security bill has dwarfed any 'savings' that closing pits may have made.
Shirebrook, Blidworth, Orgreave etc are a good defination of Hell on Earth you can almost taste the despair. These are places where you'd have to commute 50 miles to stand a chance of a job.
That was the real price of the economic miracle enjoyed by the South East.
