I think the Hispanics in the US south west are caught between a rock and a hard place. If they try to rise up against the established whites (not the retirees from the north) they will be crushed. They need to find a way to be a useful participant in the new deal ,what ever that may prove to be. I'm not too worried about them , they have been dealing with adversity for generations and will be quicker on the uptake then the ensconced white middle class which will starve before they figure out why their debit cards no longer work.

Peak oil has been and gone. I think you mean the end of peak oil. I imagine we'll look back upon 2005-2012 as being some kind of summit in conventional oil extraction, a bumpy minor transition period between up and down slopes. Then the fun begins. Expect the real dash for 'unconventionals' then.Lord Beria3 wrote:In other words, Peak oil hits next year
This is from the IEA, even more pessimistic than my 2005-2012 mountain top.

And yes crushed or more accurately shot if not by the police then by the land owners themselves. Western attitudes about property rights and self defense are worlds apart from what Easterners and city dwellers consider the norm. Let any lawlessness break out the perpetrators will be driven south at gun point any any that resist will be left for the vultures.

As the Marxists say, the class struggles will intensify around the world with explosive socio-political consequences.
Totally agree. 2012 is going to be a epic year on many different levels.Last year brought revolutions and financial crisis. 2012 brings a global struggle for control in which the apparently weak and poor will command attention and cash

Peace always has been and always will be an intermittent flash of light in a dark history of warfare, violence, and destruction

Nope most whites will head north you may well have some sort of a fight in the south west but whites wont have the numbers, its very likely when this happens when you clearly have lost a load of territory that people may start to get it, but at best that might allow you to control whatever territory your going to be left with .

I think someone got the "who said what" a bit mixed up there, but if infrastructure is going to collapse anywhere in the US, the SW is a likely candidate. And as vtsnowden implied, some sort of armed civil revolt is almost inevitable if the US rich-poor divide and civil repression continues unchecked.
Maybe the Mexicans will be the first indegenous peoples (I use the term loosely) to reclaim territories from the US; perhaps later than 2012 though.

These politicians are good at being politicians. That's their job. They don't have a clue about much else.
