So who is really in charge the government or the corporations?
Corporations - closely allied with the military - have been running the USA since WW2.
From Eisenhower's farewell address
1961:
In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.
OK, he was talking particularly about defence, but the point he was making was prescient: that forces were at work behind the scenes that wanted to make government their puppet. Which they did - I'm not an expert but I reckon the process was completed by Reagan's taking office in 1980. Since then, Democrat Presidents have blown a lot of hot air but basically, like the Republicans, acted as the corporations' and the military's bitches.
