I, among other people, some not a million miles away from you, Biff, have had discussions with certain people about technical matters which need to be discussed. If there is a technical thread or matter in which people are being mislead I will take that matter up if it's within my area of competence.
The problem is that you will never, ever, get these people to concede any ground. As emordnilap mentioned, you can't win against them, they'll just keep repeating the same specious arguments until you get bored, and then to a naive outsider it will look as though they've won.

What you can do is repeatedly challenge their motivation, because if they don't respond to that then you've won the argument.

I lurked here for some time before joinng, and it was a really fantastic online community with people from varying backgrounds and of differing opinions, who, nevertheless, had interesting things to say in a civil manner.

Far too many semi-literate blowhards making regular, half baked offerings and reactionary cant here now. I still pop in to read out of habit and hope for a good thread. Repetition is the other thing- how many times have we had the 'what to do in a fast crash' one?
