Peak oil wedding list

Post by adam2 »

Friends who have lived together for a while are to marry in the Autumn.
A church wedding is proposed, though not a grand affair.
They will be living off grid, and are already basicly equiped for so doing.

So what to put on the wedding list ?
The absence of mains electricity rules out many electrical appliances, and the fairly remote location rules out department store gift vouchers.
My suggestions include

PV modules, type to be specified.
Rutland 913 wind turbine
12 volt low energy light bulbs, LED or CFL
Bed sheets, single or double, all cotton.
Bath towels
Wool blankets, single or double.
Swiss army knives
Hand tools, either individual ones or sets.
Gardening tools
Laptop PC
Electric cable (2.5mm twin and earth)
Tilley lamp and/or spare parts.
Duplex oil lamp(s) or spare shades or chimneys.

All the above have been selected as still being useful even if received in multiple. Not many people want 4 toasters ! but 4 pairs of sheets, or 4 swiss army knives are useful.
Oil hurricane lamps are excluded from the general list because I will be giving them several.
Reference books though useful are not included as they have a good selection.

Any other suggestions ?

Warm-but-glam nightwear

Winemaking/brewing equipment

One of those wonder-washer things (of course if they're thinking of starting a family, the 12v w m/c will be a better bet :) )

although they would need to get the shotgun license themselves, anyway things of a defensive nature

you could get them a trip to do some clay pigeon shooting to try to ease them into it

Kelly kettle they already have.
Rocket stove is a possible future project, insulation already done.
Parafin, possibly, but durables rather than consumables are prefered for wedding gifts.
Thermals, they have loads.
The others are worth adding to the list

Possibly, they already have a 240 volt one, but that means either running the generator or buying a much bigger inverter.

The father of the Bride has already provided these, and shooting lessons, and a hidden secure gun cupboard.

My friend has a wedding list with expensive items (holiday excursions for her honey moon), you can contribute £50 towards a £250 helicopter trip, or £10 towards a £200 river boat journey.

At the end, she just gets the cash in her bank to spend how she wants.....
