I really am feeling like I am in the Matrix.
Did not Mr Birol openly say that the world peaked in 2006!
So WHY? With this knowledge why? Would it be sensible to push for the taps to be opened to feed BAU and support GDP?
Would it not be more prudent to start to encourage world governments in a managed global slow down, and a WWII style tech mobilization toward using our increasingly costly fossil fuels to begin the transition to clean energy, would this not also be a good way to stimulate economic growth with the growth of new energy industries and related jobs?
Did not Mr Birol say we should have started down this road 10 years ago?
The lack of joined up thinking, the mixed messages the disinformation it just beggars belief. I really do not understand what is going on! Red or Blue pill...Who gives a F**k its like the captain of the Titanic saying 'What was that bump and strange scraping sound' or oh 'or perfecting you're fiddling technique while a city burns!
Due to any real lack of discussion or emphasis by politicians and the media, I am torn between having a feeling that peak oil is possibly a cultish load of bollox and ditto for climate change, or that its all just too big and to late in the day to deal with. It is all spoken about by the media in a BLA BLA BLA fashion! BUT THEN I LOOK AT THE FACTS and THEN I LOOK AT THE INACTION and I really start to feel frustrated... either collectively we do something or we ignore it, Im starting to think that either way perhaps the rot has already set in, perhaps it's too late. So Im sorry doomers, Perhaps you were right all along? God I hope not!

Politicians, the media and the general public don't want to think about Peak Oil - its depressing, scary and at times abstract for the common man.
Reality will loom, and we will have to adjust as best we can old chap.

I have had a cup of tea and I feel much better, but seriously do you not find all the 'almost admissions' frustrating. On one hand the IEA and Mr Birol tell us:

But no, oh no no, then he says:

The denial needs to start to be removed, they need to make there minds up and calmly start telling the population the truth, how else can informed debate evolve, how else can meaningful changes and action be started. With this sort of contradiction from an agency charged to monitor world energy and advice on mitigation should there be a problem on the horizon its confusing, good job we dont have the same issues with high finance and banks, few..oh hang on!

So with Spock type logic I would conclude that he would fully endorse and champion a change of direction, perhaps away from the mantra of BAU,In the Catalyst program broadcast last month on Australia’s ABC1 television, the agency’s chief economist, Fatih Birol, said “peak oil” was reached in 2006.
He said that he expected oil prices to rise by 30 per cent over the next three years.
“The existing [oil] fields are declining so sharply that in order to stay where we are in terms of production levels in the next 25 years, we have to find and develop four new Saudi Arabias,” Dr Birol said.
“It is a huge, huge challenge that we continue to underlinee.”
But no, oh no no, then he says:

Whilst the ditherers at the IEA ponder peak oil looks like the parasites at Goldman Sucks are now predicting oil price rises this year with Brent up to $120 by year end.
This was after they had been telling everyone that they should sell commodities.
Must be a very lucrative racket telling everyone what will happen and then making sure that you profit from it.
