So, with all this unseasonably hot weather, is the Daily Mail full for stories about global warming? No, of course not.

But what is causing this warm weather? The wind is from the east, which generally brings settled weather - and extreme weather, like the cold winter weather we've had these past two years. Is this a change to our weather pattern - or too early to say yet? And are any changes happening up in the jet stream to cause the 'unusual' weather?

I seem to remember we had a spring drought last year too, until the June monsoon rains arrived.

There were no June monsoon rains in Sussex last year.

Really, what was the summer like there? And did you have the drought? We had quite a lengthy one up here.

We had a drought from April right through until the start of August. When it started raining in the north and west of the UK the rains never quite reached Sussex/Kent/East Anglia. We had to wait another 4-6 weeks before the wet weather arrived here.

Blimey, I didn't realise that. All I remember from June onwards last year was watching news reports about flooding in Carlisle and Yorkshire.

This year we're right on course for another bad drought up here. My garden is parched and my remaining water butt is nearly empty.

All I can really remember of last spring and early summer was that is was cloudy but wouldn't rain, nit at all summery. Not like now - now it's like the height of summer and the edges of the lawns are starting to turn brown.

Restrictions could be imposed on farmers extracting water from rivers in the next few weeks, should the current dry spell continue, the government has warned, after new figures showed that many river levels in England and Wales are "exceptionally low" for the time of year.

As some water companies began to replenish reservoirs from rivers, the Environment Agency reported that south-east England had received only 2.3mm of rain so far this month – just 6% of the long-term average. It comes on top of the driest March in nearly 50 years in many places. In Cambridgeshire, just 3.5mm of rain fell during March, making it the driest year in the region since 1929. In the past month, England and Wales has received only 18% of the long-term average rainfall and two-thirds of rivers in the region are below normal levels.
