The Independent - 05/04/11

The oil price shot through the $121 per barrel mark yesterday, returning to heady levels not seen since August 2008.

In London, Brent crude prices rose nearly $2 to a two-and-a-half year high, while in the US, West Texas Intermediate rose to nearly $109.

I think a more likely progression would be

$150
$200
$150
$100
$50

as we hit another recession.

Maybe not the $50 this time, though. Maybe only $70.

Yes, agreed, it may be highly likely to follow a pattern: spike at $150/whatever and drop back to half or less, then a lull as the economy adjusts to the new, higher low and off we go again...interesting to see it played out.

During each phase, the countries with the least money to spend on oil will be forced more and more out of the market place.

Brent $124.27 - WTI ticker appears to be back in operation (well at least on my laptop)...
