Solowheel - 12mph step-on-and-go unicycle

Daily Wail - 04/03/11

A designer has reinvented the wheel - with the world's smallest self-balancing unicycle.

Suitable for the daily commute or for weekend leisure, the one-wheel machine is powered by a 1,000-watt electric motor that generates a top speed of 12mph.

Users place their feet on a foldable platform either side of the wheel and simply lean forward to move, back to stop and left and right to turn.

Article continues ...
'Solowheel provides users with an easy, uncomplicated, straightforward ride.'

The unicycle costs £975 and will be available in the UK from next month.
If these catch on, I'm sure they'll soon be pursued by a fleet of black VW Golfs.

It will only be a matter of time before somebody os prosecuted for riding one on the pavement.

It also is clearly not a street legal cycle. (but then, nor is a unicycle...)

There is a US version which comes with a saddle to sit on.

I would hate to ride one on my journey to work. No way would it cope with the pot holes...

Half a Segway.

An ex cow-orker used to ride to work on a unicycle. I kid you not.

There are a few unicyclists here in Cambridge. I used to know one of them, a expert in cyber security now, I think.

Passed one not so long ago with handlebars

You can get them with gears. Come to to think about it, there is one in our shed...

Looks like he's carrying a spare wheel in his pocket, one of those emergency short trip ones.
