Reference "food riots" in the UK do you think it would be more about the type and quality of food people are forced to turn to by their finances rather than actual physical shortages?

After all you can get a weekly shop in lidl for about 30p, but it tastes like crap!

Or maybe people will stop wasting the 25% of food that is bought in the UK, and dig up the lawns to plant potatoes, or buy cheap fresh veg and meat from local producers instead of processed crap, or learn how to cook and how to re-use leftovers, or call for an end to speculation on food, or join a local box scheme or food coop....

Some might, but rioting or looting is more likely as it is more fun, produces quicker results, and might also provide new widescreen TVs, sports shoes, and cellphones.

I dont think that food riots are likely just yet, and would agree that fuel price protests are more likely in the near term.
I can forsee rioting and disorder and disorder breaking out in the near term, with looting of luxury goods, this might well be portrayed as "food riots" even if TVs and sports shoes are more widely stolen than basic foodstuffs.

To be fair, she actually talks about "social unrest", not "food riots".

I can't believe the ConDems have proposed cutting coppers' pay, on a slightly different note...

Of course they are, the last thing they want is for the public to know the truth..... The situation they fear the most is public unrest and chaos!! The results of that kind of situation have been clear to see in the last few weeks in places like Egypt etc. etc.

I have shopped at Lidel for the last few years and the food is great. Pork is better quality than other shops and the chickens dont have the burn marks on the feet like the ones on Sainsbury to show its been living in it own shit all its life.

I normally stick to the basics, tomatoes, cheese, cold meats etc... The jars of skinned red peppers are a bargain. For other stuff I go to the local butchers and the local green grocers.

Lidel also sell a range of gourmet food such as lobsters, specialty pasta etc..Also cheaper than most.
