That would work assuming that Meemoe had personal liberty and could show up. I doubt that the institution he is currently a 'guest' in would allow that, they already taking some risk by allowing him internet access, and look where that has led.Silas wrote:There is only one solution to this argument, 'as Harry Hill would say' (Meemoe enter stage left Faith Birol enter stage right), audience chant FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT!

Hey Meemoo I like your analogy of the boy and the apple tree but you haven't thought it all the way through. If your tree is the world and each limb is an oil field you are right that the boy will pick the low hanging fruit first then get a step stool to pick some higher up etc. But you miss the point that it is either dark or the foliage on the tree is so thick that the boy can't see to the top of the tree so can't tell how many apples are on each limb until he climbs up to the end. And some of the limbs aren't strong enough to hold the ladder so he will not be able to pick every apple no matter how long a ladder he uses. As he builds longer ladders he still can't see how much further up the tree goes so he is never sure how many apples are left. So far every longer ladder has put him in reach of more apples and he even finds apples he missed with shorter ones as he climbs up through the lower levels so his apples picked per hour has gone up steadily.
But one thing is for sure. There are only so many apples on the tree and there wont be any more until a new crop grows (in oils case in a few million years) and no matter how long a ladder he buys once it sticks out of the top of the tree he will run out of apples. Even if he changes to new technology and brings in a heavy machine to shake the tree to get the ones he couldn't reach from a ladder he won't be able to pick one more apple then what grew to begin with.

I think his mention of the apple tree analogy is meant as a dig at something I wrote months ago. Here:vtsnowedin wrote: Hey Meemoo I like your analogy of the boy and the apple tree but you haven't thought it all the way through.

Learn to whittle now... we need a spaceship!
On the apple analogy dont forget the boy could carry a second smaller ladder up the main ladder and balance that sideways over branches halfway up the tree to get his hands on previously unreachable or hidden apples... this is all great lateral thinking fun, where is my tea and hand me my fiddle...hang on friends romans countrymen... what is that burning smell?

I also like analogies.
Meemoe, or anyone else; a young couple inherit £1000000 and they think, we don’t need to work, we’ll just live off our inheritance.
At what point would the money start to run out?
At what point would they still have half left?

Let nobody suppose that simple, inexpensive arrangements are faulty because primitive. If constructed correctly and in line with natural laws they are not only right, but preferable to fancy complicated devices.

Thank you for the cross reference. I think yours and mine work together pretty well don't you?postie wrote:I think his mention of the apple tree analogy is meant as a dig at something I wrote months ago. I've read a lot of oil history and the OPEC 'cartel' has always been a very flawed thing.
Its a bunch of countries who attempt to manage global (majority of) oil - doesn't mean they succeed. Do you have any evidence of huge untapped reserves of oil being kept by this cartel?
if so, where!!!

Peace always has been and always will be an intermittent flash of light in a dark history of warfare, violence, and destruction

I thought it would be “Peakers” who were taken in by conspiracy theories?Lord Beria3 wrote:I've read a lot of oil history and the OPEC 'cartel' has always been a very flawed thing.

I respect RGR, because even though he is patently an industry plant he is a very intelligent man.
Meemoe, on the other hand, is totally different. He appears inspired to follow RGRs arguments, which is understandable as RGR writes convincing propaganda, but lacks the intellectual capacity.
I had wondered if Meemoe was the oil industies attempt to portray a more main-stream PO doubter, but I soon realised that anybody who could portay an idiot that well would be in Hollywood instead of the propaganda dept of an oil company, so I have to conclude that he's just another keyboard warrior attempting to climb up the coat tails of RGR.
Does this board have an "ignore" function ? I wouldn't usually use one as I prefer to see both sides of an argument, but Meemoe adds nothing useful and I'd prefer not to have to read his incomprehensible drivel whilst looking for useful information.

I thought technology was supposed to automate the mind-numbing repetitive tasks, like reading Meemoes posts and discarding them into the mental bin containing irrelevant drivel.biffvernon wrote:Since this board is, for the most part, used by sentient beings, the 'ignore' function resides between the user's brain and fingertips. I have a spam filter on my email that performs a similar function.
We were testing phpBB 3 ages ago, but it was never upgraded. That has an ignore option.Catweazle wrote:I thought technology was supposed to automate the mind-numbing repetitive tasks, like reading Meemoes posts and discarding them into the mental bin containing irrelevant drivel.

What's wrong with spam? I like it. I'll have spam spam spam spam baked beans and spam .
