If you don't want a cut throat razor you could try a double edge safety razor. The blades for them are dirt cheap- a quick look on eBay reveals 50 of a fairly good Turkish blade for less than a fiver, and Merkur does some good razors (ie the bit you load the blade into) for 20 quid. I've got enough blades to last me until well into the 2020s at current rate of use, I do fear my limiting factor would be the availability of hot water come that time.

I can second the safety blade/Merkur recommendation. It would be good to be able to put a new edge on a safety blade.

I stopped shaving in the summer. Mainly because I was tired of shaving every day for 30 odd years. As normal, I stopped shaving when I took 2 weeks summer holiday, but went I went back to work, I didn't bother to shave. Then I had to BUY a beard trimmer (so my wife insisted) - Boots own was good value and I use it every couple of weeks to stop the beard getting too long. It's very liberating not to have to shave anymore. I might go back to clean-shaven one day. I will see how the mood takes me.
