It's funny how it seems to always be roughly the same as the euro price over here. Fuel recently went up by 6¢ a litre but now you have to catch up!

From the BBC on 2nd January 2008: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7168664.stm
And see page 32 of this thread for the discussion. It's quite amusing to look back at the pre-credit crunch days with a little hindsightOil price at record $100 a barrel

Is there a way of jumping straight to a page in a multi-page thread? The bottom of the page shows Goto Previous 1,2,3...143,144,145.biffvernon wrote:From the BBC on 2nd January 2008: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7168664.stmAnd see page 32 of this thread for the discussion. BP Alaskan oil pipeline shutdown sending crude price higher and BP's share price lower:
BloombergBP Plc and its partners in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System that carries 15 percent of U.S. crude output can’t say when production will return to normal after a leak two days ago.
The shutdown forced BP, ConocoPhillips and Exxon Mobil Corp. to suspend 95 percent of production from the North Slope area. The pipeline was still closed as of 2:21 p.m. local time yesterday with no estimate of when it will return to service, said Michelle Egan, a spokeswoman for operating partnership Alyeska Pipeline Service Co.

It's that pesky Alaskan leaky oil pipeline that's behind it:
GuardianThe oil price rose to a 27-month high this morning as the ongoing disruption following last weekend's oil leak in Alaska drove fears of supply shortages.
The cost of a barrel of Brent crude – oil sourced from the North Sea – hit $98 this morning, its highest level since October 2008 before the global economic downturn took hold. US crude oil also rose to $91.65 a barrel, close to its own 27-month high.

the alaskan pipeline is to be started again at reduced flow rate without the leak being fixed to prevent a cleaning pig becoming frozen in place in the pipeline as the oil cools. Fortunately Alaska is suffering a relative heatwave for January.
If the pipeline does freeze up, it will be out of action until summer.
If the leak leads to an explosion at the pumping station, it could be out of action full stop.
If everything goes to plan, full pumping will be restored in 5 days.

The prime minister insisted he was continuing to look at the option of a stabiliser, where the rate of duty is cut as oil prices rise, bringing in additional tax revenues to the Treasury.
Meanwhile, Friends of the Earth's transport campaigner, Tony Bosworth, said he sympathised with motorists who faced sudden rises in fuel prices "but the reality is that the days of cheap fuel are over and ministers must stand up to the motoring lobby and make it clear that petrol prices will continue to rise."
